DRY DRY DRY…

Yes, I mean DRY absolutely…but don’t misunderstood that drought is coming to Miri. I mean to point to my remaining lectures for this 3rd semester. As mentioned before, this lecturer is definitely lack of experiences. But that is not the key thing to me, as everyone needs a chance to pick up experiences, the trouble is that her command of English is definitely NOT enough for her to teach properly. Yap, I meant PROPERLY.
It had come to the 4th weeks already and yet the feeling is still the same and what makes the situation worst is that as time passed; she even use more and more Chinese during the lessons to express herself. I wonder how she can deliver her lessons if my class got bumi or native students (since the whole class is Chinese).
Day after day (although I only need to “see” her twice a week), as I look around my fellow classmates; their feelings seem to be the same as mine: Bored. As now is the “seasons” for computer-based exams, some people even “demonstrate” the power of “one stone kill two birds”: doing their own practices questions while the lecturer continues with the lessons. Haha…”Superman” is coming to town…sadly is not Santa…chill…Sigh, it looks like we really need to put in our own effort to in order to understand the syllabus and prepare for the exams in the upcoming December session.
My the god protect us in the remaining torturing months…haha…
Enough of that, bye for now!

Exams...

Yes, as I still have ample of time before the paper-based exams popping up soon…I had finally registered for my 2nd and hope is the last (actually MUST be) CBE exams for me. It shall be carried out on 16th of August 2008. The exam concerned is Paper 2: Information for Management Control, which comprises 50 MCQ to be done in 2 hours with the passing marks being 56.
Let’s see how it goes…I believe I can get through it.
And by 4pm of 18th August 2008, the exams results for last June session will be made available to all candidates. Let’s pray that all goes on well and I can concentrate on the remaining 3 or 4 papers in December session or even apply for conditional offer for Skill modules.
That’s all, bye for now!

KL trip: Extravaganza

1. If you take night flight, upon approaching to landing; all cabin lights will be switched off.
2.Living in Peninsular will enable you to enjoy good roads, but you also need to pay many many many tolls. Thus, it simply mean: Pay for what you get! No Free!
3. Upon approaching KL airspace, you will see bright bright light…is really BRIGHT!
(Of course it need to be a night flight.)
4. Everyday Low Fares, is it really low? The airfares might be really low and is comparable to low cost carriers, but the surcharge is getting higher and higher within a short period. For instance, Miri bound for KL rise from MYR 120 to MYR 170 in just about three months time while Miri bound for Kuching rise from MYR 76 to MYR 96 for the same period.
5. Personally I think, if got connecting flight; choose connecting flight is nice also. You stand a chance to rest and work around and avoid long hours flying particularly in a “not so good” cabin environment. Of course, this must be done with no additional charges. Haha!
6. Driving in KL is terrible!
Bye for now!

KL trip 19: Inbound experiences

After 9 days of trip, it’s time for inbound. We headed to KLIA around 4.00pm and reached KLIA 40 minutes ++ later. After check in procedures, we “lingering around” for a while as there were ample of time before departures.
The waiting halls in KLIA are nice to me in a sense that there is a specific hall for each departure destination. For instance, our hall bound for Miri is B6 while those bound for Kuching is B5 (I guess as the aircraft is just beside ours’.). This appears to be better as it doesn’t look so crowded when compared to one “lump-sum” hall locally (But I do know that it is not economic to do that as the frequencies here is still moderate only).
The plane took off after 2 flights in front of us had. The dinner were not as nice as the outbound one and the in cabin environment (the air-cons) is also not that good making me feeling dizzy throughout the flight. The scenario became worst when approaching to landing. I saw quite a few “dizzy” faces…anyway; we landed in a rainy condition (again, so “good luck”!) 5 minutes later than scheduled time. A MASWings’ flight form Sibu landed following ours’.
In conclusion: If got next outbound / inbound, I might choose to try out Air Asia to experience the differences in all aspects (Just scared about delays!). MAS aircrafts are really OLD already. I sat 3 flights this year, 2 flights making me dizzy! Its’ really enough of that!
That’s mark my concluding narrative posts for this KL trip. Next one will be some miscellaneous snapshots to conclude. Bye bye!

KL trip 18: Chinatown

Everyone who had been KL will mention Petaling Street, which is a.k.a. Chinatown. To me, it doesn’t seem like “China” anymore, as the hawkers are now mainly natives & Indians. Even if there are still Chinese, but if you cannot command Cantonese well; better don’t buy anything. Apart, according to locals; it is a place that is perfect for pickpockets.
So…walk through to have a look may be it’s enough.
That’s all, bye for now!

KL trip 17: Genting Highlands

I guess this is the most famous highland vacation “centre” in Malaysia, with lots of shuttle services up & down the hills day in and days out. We visited there on 15th July 08 & stay over for one night.
Taking a bus service to go up will take you 75 minutes from KL while the cost is MYR 5.05 per person per trip, which is fairly reasonable. However, surprisingly there are NO safety belts available in those buses that run services to & fro. It’s really sound weird to me as the safety is really being out in a risk. I can’t really understand why there are no belts!
The environment up there is really nice as it is about 2000++ feet above the sea level with the surrounding temperature reaching 16-17 Celsius only! You don’t need air-cons, the natural airs & smog will act as “air-cons” for you!
Tickets for the theme parks will cost MYR 51 per person on weekdays & MYR 59 on weekends. This pricing will allow you to enjoy all the theme parks facilities. Opting for individual tickets is not worth as each individual games will cost about MYR 4-8 per person per ride. Opting for one-day pass will allow you to enjoy unlimited rides.
However, so “lucky” that the weather become rainy in the afternoon that day. In turn, we could only enjoy most of the indoor games only.
Regarding the check in to hotels, it’s definitely crazy as the queue was like endless. Next time anyone should learn the lesson that you should take the check in number first upon arrival although that said you only can check-in in 1500 hours!!! My father waited for a long 3.5 hours to do the check in procedure! What a terrible experiences seeing the “waiting halls” are fully crowded with people!
Overall experiences were nice. Just to point something for those out there who never been there before.
ALERT: The pricing for various materials up there are absolutely higher than in the “ground”. In the interest of saving, you should “prepare” sufficient foods & beverages for your time up there. It’s terrifying to see that a 500 ml mineral water will cost MYR 2.50, one plate of fried rice MYR 8.00, one roti-canai MYR 3.50 and the worst is that the Double Dekker snacks will cost you MYR 4.00 per pack while you only need to pay MYR 1.30 normally! And “economic rice” wouldn’t be “economic” for you up there. A plate of such kind will cost you the most MYR 7 normally but it will cost you at least MYR 13 per plate. So…you know what to do next time already! Hehe!
I guess that’s all for now! See ya!

KL trip 16: Shopping…

Like any other big cities, KL is definitely an ideal places for shopping. Ample of big & mega malls available for you to choose from so that you can spend your time there. The branded names are for instance: Mid Valley Mega Malls, Sogo, The Malls, IOI Mall, and etc.
As for hypermarkets, don’t forget to take a look at the following four names: Tesco, Sogo, Jusco & Carrerfour. Personally, I like to shop at Tesco more as they had their very own branded products, which are made available to the public at lower prices when compared to established names. For instance, isotonic soft drinks just for MYR 1.59, Pocket tissues for MYR 1.05, & other hyper values.
Sogo KL is ideal for the public to spend their free time as almost the whole building is fully occupied (& possibly owned) by Sogo. For those who wish to hunt for casual wears, may be it is a perfect place. But as for me, I only manage to buy some bargains wears but no any single ones at other casual wears floors.
Jusco & Carrerfour to me are just an ordinary hypermarket that is available anywhere. Prices for the goods seem a little bit higher. But overall is still nice.
And mind you, those malls are really BIG in terms of sizes regardless of locations, particularly Mid Valley Mega Mall. You need a quarter hour for you to “move” from one end to the other. It’s not an easy task! My brother is kidding that they shouldn’t name it “Mega” but instead “Tera” Mall, as it is really huge! Hahaha…
Today marked the 1st weekend when we were backed at Miri. This morning went out to buy some grocery. Maybe the “BIG” effect hasn’t get rid yet, we shopped like a lighting. Everything was done under 2 hours & a bit more only.
Before ending, just to describe what had came across my mind the other day. People staying in central Peninsular really can enjoy a nice shopping environment with vast choices of malls. I thought that you could take a “turn” one, this week go one place; next week another. I guess we can “rotate” it almost for 10 weeks. (In short: it meant that you would only visit one mall once every 10 weeks as there are too many malls waiting for you to “rotate”!)
That’s all, bye for now!

KL trip 15: MPH Bookstores

MPH is another franchised bookstores only available in Peninsular Malaysia. It features mostly the best English Publications from overseas. I did visited 2 outlets & “see” 1 outlet while I am at KL. The locations are: One Utama, Mid Valley Mega Mall & Sunway Pyramid.
I did saw the CAT publications that I want, but “sadly” I didn’t buy it at the 1st place. In the end, just came back with some Chinese publications only. I also don’t know why I did buy it. May be thinking of to find it at Popular outlets to enjoy 10% discount (but don’t have, only got a few CIMA books).
The prices there are reasonable as they just convert the exchange rates only. They sold the books at RM 84 & RM 112 with the selling price of marked ₤ 12 (CAT) & ₤ 16 (ACCA) on the books respectively, which is a reasonable pricing.
As for their Chinese departments, not so attractive as they do need the “help” from Popular as Popular is the “Big Brother” that distribute Chinese publications locally (So as the Japanese owned bookstores at Suria KLCC, but the price are higher).
In conclusion, if you need English publications, go there to find it at better prices while the Suria KLCC one has more collections (is really like a library), but just ready to pay more!
That’s all. Bye for now!
